The local high schools will be well represented at the Georgia High School Association State Championship finals in Macon on Feb. 16-17.
Two dozen individual wrestlers from Cartersville, Cass and Woodland — all in Class 5A — advanced following a State sectional meet at Cambridge High in Milton on Feb. 11.
Seven Colonels won their respective weight divisions at the sectional — Lee Camp (106 pounds); Hunter Barrett (113); Caden Alford (120); Jake Crapps (126); Rowdy Duck (132); Tyler McKnight (144); and Zach McKnight (165.)
Wildcats wrestlers Hayden Santora (138 pounds) and Champ Higdon (215) also won in their divisions at the meet.
Half a dozen other local wrestlers finished as section runner-ups. That includes three second-place finishers from Cass — Tanner Toups (138 pounds); Kriecg Roe (157); and Parker Dunn (190) — as well as three Woodland grapplers — Zachary Wallace (144); Heath Tatum (165); and heavyweight Kwadrus Wilson.
Grant Adams, a 120-pound wrestler for Cartersville, also finished second in his weight division.
Other wrestlers qualifying for the trip to Macon include Woodland’s Amari Kinnamore (106 pounds); Nathan Cates (120); Paul Lanier (126) and Jovante Luke (157).
Also qualifying for Cartersville is 126-pounder Eaiden Neal; Talan Nix (138) and heavyweight competitor Delroy Hurst. Cass will also send 150-pounder Mason Tompkins to the State Championship.
The Adairsville Tigers, a Class 3A team, is sending eight student-athletes to the State Championship.
That includes Madden Boyce (113 pounds); Victor Singer (132); Jamori Speights (138); Jacob Pasley (144); Brett Lance (150); Jaimon Long (190); Seth Sellers (215); and heavyweight Jett Johnson.
